As I return to posting here today, I’m going over a topic that I’ve only just recently began to witness and comment on. I’ll paraphrase Ronnie Coleman here when I say “Errybody wanna lose body fat but nobody wanna give up the pizza.” Hardly Shakespeare, but you know what I mean. The biggest bit of knowledge I’ve learned this year about fitness is that your diet has to be as important as your training. Today, I’ll go over my insights and keys to lowering body fat.
WB is at that insane 4% bodyfat from a ton of hard work, eating clean, and getting the cardio in. I’ve been busting my ass at the gym since January, getting cardio, getting enough sleep, but then it hit me that I’d been neglecting my nutrition properly. I gave up alcohol 2 months ago (only had some wine at dinner on vacation and didnt even like it), but the real culprit as to why my bodyfat was stalling was diet. A while back WB said to me “Food is muscle fuel. Its not supposed to make you happy. Its not suppose to be a reward or a treat. Its to fuel the body, and muscle growth”
That sentence really clicked with me and last week I went hard core. Drinking over a gallon of water a day. Getting 1.3g protein per bodyweight at every meal, but I’d been doing all of this for a while. What I finally did was eliminating sugar, salt, and grains. Just meat, a few greens, and thats it. Now, this isn’t easy, or fun. I wanted to drop kick someone in my office who made toast and stunk up the whole office with its carby goodness. When tempted to eat something I truly did not want to, I asked myself “will this fuel muscle growth or sustain my body in a positive way?” If the answer was no, I didn’t consume it. My office also had someone bring donuts in. A coworker I’m cool with asks “aren’t you getting a donut?” I responded with “yes, I’d love a donut, but I want abs more” And that is it. I’m going to measure my body fat and post it in the comments because while my waist measurement is still at the same, I feel leaner. Last week I felt hungry as shit at times. Once again, WB in his wisdom told me before “hungry is good, it means your body is consuming the fat you have”, and this is the golden ticket. IT IS OKAY TO FEEL HUNGRY!
I see so many people saying “Im on a diet” or “I want to lose weight” stuffing their faces with candy, pizza, and french fries. The first second there is a hunger pang, they reach for the candy dish or bag of chips. Our society tells us to never feel uncomfortable and people use a little hunger pang as an excuse to eat garbage. Once again, ITS OKAY TO FEEL HUNGRY!
Here at WB Fitness, we dont make excuses. If you want a six pack, mothefucker you gotta work for it, and that means not eating junk. I’m not there yet, but by the time my birthday rolls around (Sept 3) I want to at least have ab outlines. And I fucking will because I want it. As we progress, we’re going to have one carb meal a day ( I’ll let WB elaborate on why this is) but I’m not there yet.
Remember:
- Get that 1 gallon+ water a day
- Avoid sugars, carbs, and alcohol if possible or limit consumption
- Kill it at the gym. Dont skip cardio
- 1.3g protein per bodyweight per day
- No bullshit
Summers here, but that doesn’t mean we’re done by a long shot. Winter will be the clean bulk, and I’m so damn stoked for that. I’m no where close to being where I want to be psychically, but this is the best I’ve been in a very long time. Lets get it bros!
