HIIT the Gym

We’re all about the iron here at WB Fitness.  We go in and kill those weights every single day, but as all of you team members know, we don’t stop there.  Depending on what lifts we do, it dictates what kind of cardio we do?  Oh you don’t do cardio?  Then you’re not doing the WB Fitness program in its entirety.  Cardio is just as important as lifting for us.  It keeps us healthy, sheds fat and is overall good for you.

And it fucking should be

One thing you see all over the internet and even in real life is guys who have no problem moving massive amounts of weight and doing set after set of lifts, but ask them to hit the stairs for a while and they bitch and complain.  If you want to get rid of the flab covering up those gainz, you gotta do your cardio. Before WB Fitness, I too scoffed at the idea of cardio as it “ruins gains bruh” which is a complete crock of shit.

Also, I’ll point out that as WB says, “if you can hold a conversation its not cardio”  and I agree.  Simply walking at a slow pace isn’t gonna cut it around here, so this season I decided to try out HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) but take it to the next level, the WB Fitness insane level.

The basic idea with HIIT is that you work out in intensity intervals.  You go hard as fuck for a set time then back off for a break then repeat.  I’ve been doing this when on the stair climber, but you can do it on a treadmill, elliptical, hell even just running outside.   The benefits of HIIT include being able to burn a ton of calories in a short amount of time, increasing your metabolic rate after you leave the gym, and shedding body fat.

When Im on the stair climber, I’ll do 1 minute at a moderate speed/resistance.   After that first initial minute, I ramp up the speed by about 25% and resistance by about the same and give it my all for 45 seconds, then drop back to a lower speed/resistance for 30 seconds, the repeat the process over.  I ended up burning 210 more calories than I did when just climbing at a static pace for the entire cardio session.

Next time (tomorrow) you’re in the gym, give this process a try.  I wont lie, you feel completely REKT after this but the benefits are there.
