We Don’t Do This For Comfort

Hey Team!

Sorry I have been in the wind lately, but glad to see that the awesome J.Nyx and Lou Skunt have been keeping it all rolling.

Today we are going to talk about comfort zone.

My comfort zone in the gym is squatting. I can do it day in and day out. Close on the heels of that is deadlifting.

Not too long ago a guy I know asked me some advice about squat form and i told him “just put the weight on your back and do 500 reps you will figure it out.” I didn’t actually mean for him to do it, but sure enough he went to the gym and hit the power rack and squatted out 500 reps.

The leg and ass burn out was crazy. He said he was sore for days. I saw the guy the next week and he said he felt so much more comfortable squatting the next time he was in the gym.

So pick your worst lift. You know which one. For me it is barbell bench press. I constantly avoid the barbell for the dumbbells and while it isn’t bad to use the dumbbells, the bar is there for a reason and avoiding it is stupid. Which ever the lift is that you don’t like, that you avoid……don’t do 3×20 or 5×10 or even think about sets. Put that thinking away, look at the weight and say “I am going to lift this weight 500 times” Re rack the bar as often as you have to. Hell, if you wind up doing 500 sets of 1 it doesn’t matter. Just get your 500 lifts in.

I dread barbell benchpress. Time to get over that.

Not everything in lift is comfortable and the things worth getting will be the least so. Lou Skunt reminded me the other day that one of the best things about the gym is not the strength, not the look you build, not the confidence or even the release but the fact that fighting the weights hard and daily teaches you to handle what life gives you.

So let me know below which your least favorite lift is and get to the gym one day this weekend and do that lift 500 times. Come back and comment on the experience.

Grind on!
