We’re going to test out doing reviews of products that we all use to increase our gym, recovery, or nutrition experience. Today I kick off the series with my review of MusclePharm’s Combat Protein Powder. There are hundreds of different protein powders out there, and there a quite a few I’ve tried, but this one is one of my favorites. I try to get most of my protein from foods I eat but I find that having a protein shake with breakfast helps me hit the macros much easier. I just finished a 2lb tub of this stuff, and I will definitely be buying it again.
Where to buy: You can get this stuff at most nutrition stores or even online. I actually found it at Costco on sale.
Price: This powder is priced around $25 for 2lbs which isn’t too expensive as far as protein powders go. Most powders in this price range can be hit or miss but this one is definitely a winner
Taste: This may be my favorite part of this review. I had the Cookies N Cream flavor and it tastes fucking awesome. It is good enough to mix with water but mixing it with coffee is where its at. I’d blend 2 scoops into some coffee with ice and have a java/protein shake each morning. The other redeeming quality of this is that this powder dissolves even in cold liquid! Nothing worse then trying to drink your shake and getting a huge clump of dry powder. Blended in the blender it will dissolve perfectly. I recommend trying the coffee method. If you’re looking for more calories, add in a scoop of peanut butter or a banana.
Macros: It stacks up pretty well against other “good”protein powders. I use two scoops in my shakes so the macros are double that on the Nutrition Facts:
Calories: 260
Protein: 50g
Fat: 3g
Carbs: 9g
Sugar: 4g
Potassium: 240mg
Opinion: I enjoyed this stuff as it isn’t too expensive, tastes great, and helps hit the macros. I’d definitely like to try out their vanilla flavor in the future. I avoid all chocolate flavored powders as a personal preference. Give it a shot if you’re looking to boost those macros. I give this protein a 8.5/10.
