Good morning, good Monday and Happy March. Welcome to 3:2:1. If you are anything like me, last week’s workouts have you feeling exhausted and like you were hit by a truck. This is good.
With our bodies changing and 17 days out from Spring it is time to really tie
together our focus. We already know to keep our mind / muscle connection when in the gym, focus on the muscles we are working and keep our heads in the game. But the gym is only part of the story. What about all the other time.
I want to start adding a massive amount of intentionality to your day to day activities. Do not just ties your shoes or brush you teeth, hook that mind / muscle connection in and do it with brutal intention. When you are packing your gym bag, cooking your food, getting your mail, whatever — keep yourself locked in.
One thing I want to stress is muscle engagement. Yes, we engage our core when we do our bench presses. Of course, that is just proper form. But, what
about when you are just walking down the street? What about when you are sitting at your desk? Do you engage your core? You should be. You can’t just spend 23 hours a day letting your muscles be lazy and then jump in the gym and expect them to perform like a fine tuned machine.
So keep that core engaged as often as you can. Keep those glutes clenched and your bis, tris, pecs flexed when possible. When at work stretch your calves by putting your does into the ground and lifting your heel.
With all things you do, you should be bringing a high level of intentionality to the game. You shouldn’t be doing anything haphazardly. Lifting a pencil? Really focus on it. Act like it weighs 200 pounds. Keep your muscles engaged, keep your mind engaged. When we start breaking down the barriers between our mind and our body and start forcing ourselves to live more intentional lives we will see better results.
I know that this is in no ways easy, but it is something that you should be practicing. Keep at it and you will see the difference in your workouts, in your results and in your day to day life.
