Anchors and Balloons

Well team, here it comes. We are three days from program start. Talking to all of you I get the sense that you are ready to go. If you have been doing the right thing, you should already be acclimated to your new workout schedule and, having been hitting the gym for a few weeks now, the worst of the restart fatigue and soreness should be over.

3 FUCKING DAYS.

And so here is our last weekend off program. It has been a long 5 months. We have been fat and we have been lazy. That is ok, we earned it last year. We needed time to heal. But now it is time to get back to the battle. Look at yourself in the mirror. It is time to carve the you that you want to be. It is going to hurt. You are going to be sore and you are going to be tired. But you guys know better than anyone what the payoff is.

Here are some last minute tips:

Do your fucking workouts. Do not miss any. If, you do, pick up and get back in asap. Do not let bad momentum start. This program only works if you do. It demands everything from you. You are selling your soul. There is no half assing.

Get your food down. The first month or so you might see some weight gain. I always do. You will be getting stronger, but not seeing your body change. You may feel like shit looking in the mirror. All I can say is this: Trust The Program. No one who has trusted the program has ever been disappointing. The first few months when you are retaining water and adding fat with the new muscle is going to suck. It will suck for me too. Deal with it. This is the process.

Get your water down. MINIMUM 1 gallon a day. 2 Gallons a day is much better. It amazes me when I see guys who are willing to control their diet and do all their cardio and lift weights like a mad man but can’t seem to drink his water. It is fucking water. Stop your bitching and just drink it. There are 256 ounces in 2 gallons of water. I have a 25 ounce water bottle, i suggest you do do. Drink it 10 times. That’s all. Just fucking do it. Then have a little 6 ounce glass of water before bed. You are moving 20, 30, 40 sometimes 50 thousand pounds of weight a day while maintaining a strict diet AND getting an hour of insane cardio down…why skimp on something as easy as the water.

Finally, for today, I want to talk to you briefly about anchors and balloons.

This program is 28 weeks long. 7 Months. We are starting 2/18 and going to work our asses off every day until 9/2. During this time a lot of life is going to happen. Things will happen that you simply cannot account for.

During the next 7 months you will encounter a lot of people…people you already know, people you just meet, social acquaintances, family, friends, coworkers — all of these people will act either as anchors or balloons. Many people will be both at different times. Keep the following thought in mind: you do not have time for anchors. We are here trying to achieve something great. It is difficult enough to do totally unencumbered. Doing it while carrying someone else’s bullshit will be damn near impossible. If a person is a balloon, if they help lift you off the ground, make sure you dedicate time to that person. If a person is an anchor, if they hold you back or drag you down, you need to put distance and apathy between you and that person. You have to understand it is you or them. Even people who are often uplifting balloons, when they act as anchors, need to be put at arms length. We are going to create our best possible selves. We are going to mentally and physically forge ourselves into something bigger, greater and more powerful than we ever have. This will be good for us and the people around us. Push aside the anchors.

One last word, sometimes we can be our own worst anchor. This is something we also need to separate ourselves from. In birthing our greatest self we must be willing and able to kill our worst self. I know better than most that this is much easier to say than to do, but it must be done. When the negativity creeps in (as it will because that is part of the personality of someone who obsesses the way we plan to) you need to look at that like another obsticle. Just like the 20th rep of a weight you never repped out 20 times before, or the extra plate you just put on, or the 1000 crunches when you are totally exhausted….it is just another challenge. If we are to be warriors we must meet our challenges head on. We won’t win every time, but we must always fight as hard as we can.

So let’s cast off our anchors, get our water and food down, nail these gym sessions, conquer our demons and become the best us. Monday boys. Monday. We start on Monday.
