While we’re chillin in the offseason I’ve been coming up and testing out meals that will give us the macros we need while not going overboard. Also, even though food will just be fuel for our gainz, I also like a little flavor. Last season I was big on what WB dubbed “Lava Chicken” which is a spicy ground chicken/turkey meal prep that gets you enough calories and protein. Chicken has been a staple of bodybuilding diets forever, but I wanted to change it up this time.
This time around I decided to get some ground beef as my protein base. I was able to get 7 lbs Lean 90/10 ground beef for around $22 bucks(!) and meal prepped it all in one day. When breaking it down in Myfitnesspal, I was astonished when I saw the macro breakdown.
10 oz of 90/10 Ground Beef Macros:
Cals: 500
Protein: 57.5g
Fat: 27.5g
Carbs: Og
10 oz of Ground Turkey Macros:
Cals: 600
Protein: 50g
Fat: 42.5g
Carbs: 0
The lean beef had a bit more protein, less fat and calories than the Turkey. If you need extra fat/calories then the turkey would be your go to, but I love the flavor of ground beef, so I stuck with that.
The Recipe
Now for what you’re all here for, the breakdown. Heres what you need:
90/10 Ground Beef (5lbs)
2 eggs
1 Jar Trader Joes Fire Roasted Tomato Salsa (found here) I use this because it has no salt added
1 can chipolte’s in Adobo (personal preference)
1 onion chopped
1/2 garlic clove chopped
Olive/Avocado Oil
Instructions
Grab a cast iron skillet or your preferred pan, In a bowl, mix the salsa, garlic, onion, peppers, egg and beef together. Spice an way you like.
Add your preferred oil to the pan as it heats up.
Add in the beef, stirring it until it reaches your desired “doneness” level and if its anything more than still mooing, you’re wrong.
Once done, remove, weigh/portion out for the week and you’re done.
One way I like to prepare it is over some baby spinach. The final breakdown comes down to about 12 oz of beef a day with these macros:
12 oz lean ground beef
600 Calories
69g Protein
33g Fat
0g Carbs
Not bad if you ask me, and it tastes amazing. Let me know if you guys try this out. I’ll be making this all 2019 season.
