We’ve been busting our asses in the gym since the beginning of the year, right? We’ve been diligent with our diets, right? Now that Summer has arrived and we’ve put the 4th behind us, it’s time to relax and put things on cruise control, right?… WRONG.
Let’s remind ourselves: This is the Lifestyle we Chose, and Summer is no time to become complacent. As a matter of fact, the warmer months have historically provided me with the most substantial gains, and here are a few reasons why:
– The weather is nice and my attitude improves accordingly.
– The warm weather increases workout efficiency by allowing me to warm-up faster during my workouts.
– The warm weather makes my joints feel fantastic; no little aches and pains. As a result, I can push much more weight and more volume – safely.
– Because of the heat, any additional physical activity (biking, swimming, working around the house, detailing cars, etc.) helps shed excess water weight and improves my overall conditioning.
– I’m wearing less clothing so I can more easily evaluate my conditioning throughout the day.
As much as I enjoy the warm weather, I do make a few changes to my routine in the warmer months to play it safe:
– I increase my daily water intake by at least 1 gallon.
– I incorporate 8-10oz. watermelon (pre-workout).
– I incorporate an additional scoop of whey protein, for the extra potassium (pre-workout).
Warm weather is not an excuse to get lazy fellas. Go ahead and reflect on your accomplishments over the last 6-months, but use the glory of Summer to take you to the next level.
Don’t sit on your ass – Now is the time to Bring The Pain!
